What is YFS Spanish?

Our mission is simple: to introduce young children to the Spanish language through play, songs, and engaging activities, fostering a love for learning.

All classes are planned and run by Yurena Fox Sicilia, who has a pedagogy degree and ELE certificate for foreign language teaching, and is DBS checked and certified.

Yurena has been a teacher for over 9 years, shaping the lives of young children in both England and her home island of Tenerife.

Further benefit details

Learning a second language in early childhood brings numerous benefits across cognitive, academic, social, and cultural domains. Here are some key advantages:

Cognitive Benefits

  • Enhanced Brain Development: Early bilingualism stimulates brain development, leading to improved executive functions such as problem-solving, multitasking, and decision-making.

  • Better Memory: Bilingual children often show superior memory skills, including better recall of words, concepts, and sequences.

  • Increased Cognitive Flexibility: Learning multiple languages enhances a child's ability to switch between tasks and adapt to new situations more easily.

  • Enhanced Brain Connectivity: Learning and using multiple languages enhances neural pathways and increases brain plasticity.

Academic Benefits

  • Improved Literacy Skills: Bilingual children generally have better phonological awareness, which aids in reading and writing both their first and second languages.

  • Higher Academic Performance: Studies indicate that bilingual children tend to perform better on standardized tests, particularly in areas such as math, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

  • Early Metalinguistic Awareness: Learning a second language helps children understand the structure and function of language, promoting better grammar and syntax skills.

  • 3 Natural Learning Process

  • Ease of Acquisition: Young children are particularly adept at picking up new languages through natural exposure, play, and interaction.

  • Native-Like Pronunciation: Early learners are more likely to achieve native-like pronunciation and intonation in a second language.

The advantages of learning a second language in early childhood are far-reaching, affecting cognitive development, academic success, social skills, cultural awareness, and future economic opportunities. These benefits underscore the importance of integrating language learning into early childhood education programs.
